what is it?
The Pennsylvania Railroad Class GG1 is a class of streamlined electric locomotives built for the Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR), in the northeastern United States. The class was known for its striking art deco shell, its ability to pull trains at up to 100 mph, and its long operating career of almost 50 years. Between 1934 and 1943, General Electric and the PRR's Altoona Works built 139 GG1s.

base stats
Bars compare against all trains: 600 km/h (maglev), 1,700 seats; power, weight and number built on a log scale up to 20 MW, 1,000 t and 20,000 built.
fun facts
- First built 92 years ago, in 1934.
- Top speed is 1.2× a car on the Dutch motorway (130 km/h).
- At full speed it would cover Amsterdam–Utrecht (≈ 40 km) in 15 minutes.
- 6.3 MW is about 75 family cars (~85 kW each) flat out.
- Weighs about as much as 36 African elephants (~6 t each).
- 24.1 m long: about 5 cars parked nose to tail.
- Served for 48 years (1935–1983).
electric locomotive: Draws power from overhead wires or a third rail and pulls separate carriages.
