what is it?
The E.412 class (factory name 112E) is a batch of multi-role electric locomotives built for the mountain lines, particularly for the northern Italian lines of the Brenner Pass. They are known as Brenner locomotives (also shortened to Brennerlok, "-lok" as German shorthand for locomotive). 28 units from both the groups have been acquired by Trenitalia, as part of a process of simplifying rail operation between Italy, Switzerland, Austria and Germany.

- Top speed is 1.7× a car on the Dutch motorway (130 km/h).
- At full speed it would cover Amsterdam–Utrecht (≈ 40 km) in 11 minutes.
- 6 MW is about 71 family cars (~85 kW each) flat out.
- Weighs about as much as 15 African elephants (~6 t each).
- 19.4 m long: about 4 cars parked nose to tail.
- Still in service after 27 years.
