what is it?
GT1 (Russian: ГТ1code: rus promoted to code: ru , later GT1h — gazoturbovoz, type 1, hybrid) is a class of Russian mainline dual-unit freight gas-turbine–electric locomotives, manufactured in Russia by Zheldorremmash at Voronezh Locomotive Plant and by Sinara Group at Lyudinovsky Locomotive Plant. The locomotive uses an AC/DC electric transmission: the gas turbine engine running on liquefied natural gas is connected to an alternating current generator, and the current produced by it is rectified to direct current and supplied to the traction electric motors, which drive the locomotive. A unique feature of the locomotive's design is the placement of a single gas turbine unit on only one of its units, while the fuel compartment is on the other unit, with both units being the traction units.

base stats
Bars compare against all trains: 600 km/h (maglev), 1,700 seats; power, weight and number built on a log scale up to 20 MW, 1,000 t and 20,000 built.
fun facts
- First built 19 years ago, in 2007.
- 8.5 MW is about 100 family cars (~85 kW each) flat out.
- 45.1 m long: about 10 cars parked nose to tail.
diesel locomotive: A diesel engine on board drives the wheels, usually through a generator (diesel-electric).
