what is it?
The EMD SD90MAC is a model of 6,000 hp (4,470 kW) C-C diesel-electric locomotive produced by General Motors Electro-Motive Division (EMD). It is, with the SD80MAC, the largest single-engined locomotives produced, and among the most powerful diesel-electric locomotives made by EMD, surpassed only by the dual-engined DDA40X. The SD9043MAC is the 4,300 hp (3,210 kW) variant, using a 16-cylinder 710G engine instead of the H-engine, which was originally intended as a temporary alternative while EMD tried to solve the H-engine's issues. However, the accompanying upgrade program was never utilized by its customers.
base stats
Bars compare against all trains: 600 km/h (maglev), 1,700 seats; power, weight and number built on a log scale up to 20 MW, 1,000 t and 20,000 built.

- 4.5 MW is about 53 family cars (~85 kW each) flat out.
- Weighs about as much as 31 African elephants (~6 t each).
- 24.4 m long: about 5 cars parked nose to tail.
diesel locomotive: A diesel engine on board drives the wheels, usually through a generator (diesel-electric).
