what is it?
The EMD GP20C-ECO is a 2,000-horsepower (1,500 kW) B-B diesel-electric locomotive built by EMD. Although similar to the EMD GP22ECO, the GP20C-ECO follows Canadian Pacific's request for crashworthiness and EPA emission standards with the "C" in the designation denoting crashworthiness of the cab, frame, and fuel tank. Canadian Pacific (CP) requested relaxed emission standards (Tier 0+ instead of Tier 2) to cut costs. GP20C-ECOs use just enough rebuilt components to designate them a rebuild.
base stats
Bars compare against all trains: 600 km/h (maglev), 1,700 seats; power, weight and number built on a log scale up to 20 MW, 1,000 t and 20,000 built.
fun facts
- First built 13 years ago, in 2013.
- 1.5 MW is about 18 family cars (~85 kW each) flat out.
diesel locomotive: A diesel engine on board drives the wheels, usually through a generator (diesel-electric).
