what is it?
X1 was a series of two-car electric multiple units (twin units) owned by Greater Stockholm Transport (SL) on the Stockholm commuter rail. The X1 was operated in sets of up to five units, making ten-car trains, each unit consisting of one motor car and one unpowered car. 104 units were built by ASEA in 1967–75 and were replaced by the new X60.

base stats
Bars compare against all trains: 600 km/h (maglev), 1,700 seats; power, weight and number built on a log scale up to 20 MW, 1,000 t and 20,000 built.
fun facts
- First built 58 years ago, in 1968.
- Top speed is 1.7× a car on the Dutch motorway (130 km/h).
- At full speed it would cover Amsterdam–Utrecht (≈ 40 km) in 11 minutes.
- 1.1 MW is about 13 family cars (~85 kW each) flat out.
- Weighs about as much as 13 African elephants (~6 t each).
- 49.6 m long: about 11 cars parked nose to tail.
- Seats 196: 4 full city buses (~50 seats each).
- Served for 43 years (1968–2011).
multiple unit: A self-propelled train: motors are spread under the passenger cars, so no separate locomotive.
