what is it?
Th Xplorers are a type of diesel multiple unit (DMU) trains built by ABB and operated around New South Wales. Initially entering service in October 1993 with CountryLink, the Xplorers are mechanically identical to the Endeavour railcars, though feature a higher level of passenger amenity. All 23 carriages were built in the Dandenong rolling stock factory.

fun facts
- First built 33 years ago, in 1993.
- Top speed is 1.2× a car on the Dutch motorway (130 km/h).
- At full speed it would cover Amsterdam–Utrecht (≈ 40 km) in 15 minutes.
- 383 kW is about 5 family cars (~85 kW each) flat out.
- Weighs about as much as 10 African elephants (~6 t each).
- 50.5 m long: about 11 cars parked nose to tail.
- Still in service after 33 years.
multiple unit: A self-propelled train: motors are spread under the passenger cars, so no separate locomotive.
