what is it?
The Mitsubishi Ki-67 Hiryū (飛龍, flying dragon), Allied reporting name "Peggy", was a twin-engine bomber produced by Mitsubishi Aircraft Company and used by the Imperial Japanese Army Air Service and Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service in World War II. While its original official designation was "Army Type 4 Heavy Bomber" (四式重爆撃機, Yon-shiki jū bakugeki-ki), in all of its key parameters, the Ki-67 was similar to the contemporaneous medium bombers of other countries.
How to recognise it: 2 piston engines with propellers · mid wing · 22.5 m wingspan
base stats
Bars compare against all aircraft: 3,500 km/h, 20,000 km, 850 seats; size and number built on a log scale up to 640 t (An-225) and 45,000 built (Cessna 172).
fun facts
- First flew 84 years ago, in 1942.
- Top speed is 4.1× a car on the Dutch motorway (130 km/h).
- Wingspan of 22.5 m: about 5 cars parked nose to tail.
- Fully loaded it can weigh as much as 2 African elephants (~6 t each).
- Range of 2,800 km: 16× Amsterdam to Brussels.
- Can fly 1.1× higher than Mount Everest (8,849 m).
piston: A car-like piston engine turning a propeller: simple and cheap, the classic small plane.
