what is it?
The Boeing 777, commonly referred to as the Triple Seven, is an American long-range wide-body airliner developed and manufactured by Boeing Commercial Airplanes. The 777 is the world's largest twinjet and the most-built wide-body airliner. The jetliner was designed to bridge the gap between Boeing's other wide body airplanes, the twin-engined 767 and quad-engined 747, and to replace aging DC-10 and L-1011 trijets.
How to recognise it: 2 jet engines · low wing · retractable tricycle gear · 64.8 m wingspan
base stats
Bars compare against all aircraft: 3,500 km/h, 20,000 km, 850 seats; size and number built on a log scale up to 640 t (An-225) and 45,000 built (Cessna 172).
fun facts
- First flew 32 years ago, in 1994.
- Wingspan of 64.8 m: about 14 cars parked nose to tail.
- Fully loaded it can weigh as much as 59 African elephants (~6 t each).
- Range of 14,685 km: Amsterdam to New York (≈5,850 km) without stopping.
- Can fly 1.5× higher than Mount Everest (8,849 m).
jet: Gas turbine pushing air out the back (turbofan or turbojet): fast and high-flying.
