what is it?
The Antonov An-12 (Russian: Антонов Ан-12; NATO reporting name: Cub) is a four-engined turboprop cargo/military transport aircraft designed by Antonov and produced at the Irkutsk Aviation Plant and the Tashkent Mechanical Plant in the Soviet Union. It is a militarised version of the Antonov An-10 transport aircraft and was produced in many variants. Developed during the 1950s and introduced by the Soviet Air Forces in 1959, it remained the standard medium-range cargo and paratroop transport aircraft of the service throughout the rest of the Cold War.
How to recognise it: 4 turboprops · shoulder wing · retractable tricycle gear · 38 m wingspan
base stats
Bars compare against all aircraft: 3,500 km/h, 20,000 km, 850 seats; size and number built on a log scale up to 640 t (An-225) and 45,000 built (Cessna 172).
